Magic Mail Monitor FAQ
find the solution
Q: What is Magic Mail Monitor for?
A:
This program helps users manage their e-mail accounts, i.e. it
presents detailed information about e-mail account
contents, periodically checks and notifies of incoming
e-mail messages. Its small size, efficient operation and
multiple account capability make the program an ideal
tool for those who wants to stay aware of what's going on
with their mail.
Q: How do I install the program?
A:
All you need is only to accomplish following:
- extract files from magic.zip archive;
- copy them to desired location;
- run magic.exe.
Q: How do I uninstall the program?
A:
Unfortunately the program does not currently have an uninstall feature,
so to clean up your system you are to perform these steps:
- run regedit.exe and delete whole key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Orient Lab;
- in any explorer's window, in menu
View\Options\File Types remove Magic Mail Monitor Document item;
- delete all unnecessary program files.s
Q: Can I get the source code of Magic Mail Monitor?
A:
The Magic is absolute freeware, however its source code is not public
domain. This policy is subject to change someday, I will think about it.
Q: Why do I encounter problems while using MMM via modem connection?
A:
On a permanent connection to POP3 servers, Magic Mail Monitor
works perfectly amazing! However,
if you use modem to dial up your Internet provider, you
may encounter some minor problems, because Magic does not
initiate and close such a connection itself. I am aware
that many people use modems for their networking, but I
have no chance to help them, because there's no proper
appliance available for me to test my software on.
Beside integrating modem functionality into my program,
there are other solutions, for example many users
reported that Dunce is
a good auto-dialing tool.
Q: Where can I obtain information pertaining to the POP3 to write a similar application?
A:
The best idea is to refer to the original source of the Post Office Protocol Version 3 standard,
namely RFC (Request For Comments) #1939.
There are servers featuring RFC's galore, but this one offers HTML documentation which is quite
convenient to browse.
Q: How can I fix Cannot follow link 'mailto:...' message while using QuickSend and QuickReply features?
A:
This message occurs when there is no default mailer installed in your system.
To fix this problem, you need to follow these steps:
- run regedit.exe and find the key
\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command;
if it doesn't exist, then create it;
- use Default string value to type in the command line
to invoke your favorite mailer, for instance
C:\Programs\Eudora\Eudora.exe %1.
